The leadership team at API offers a wide range of experience and knowledge in healthcare. We strive to be a leading provider of in-patient and sub-acute care by focusing on our patients needs first and designing our practice around our core values of honesty, integrity and commitment to team-work.





Scot Smith, MD - Chief Medical Officer, SW Region
Dr. Smith oversees Sound's hospital sites and teams in Sound's southern west coast region. Dr. Smith's prior experience serving as an Airborne Ranger and Intelligence Officer brings a wealth of practical knowledge to Sound and to the concept of team medicine. He originated the first hospitalist program in the Navy and launched four subsequent programs for the military including the first program on foreign soil in Japan. Dr. Smith is on the design team for the Department of Defense's Hospital of the 21st Century program. He was Chief at Tuality Healthcare before becoming Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Smith is board certified in internal medicine; he graduated medical school at Hahemann University and trained at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Vance Abshire, MD - Medical Director
SUBACUTE DIVISION
Dr. Abshire joined API in May, 2005 as a physician providing care to sub-acute and long term care patients in the East Valley and Scottsdale area. He joined the leadership team as Medical Director for the Sub-acute Division in December, 2007. As Medical Director for this division Dr. Abshire is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the 15 physicians who care for patients in sub-acute and long term care facilities throughout the Valley. Being a practicing physician Dr. Abshire brings valuable first hand insight to the management team with regard to the needs of the physicians and patients and the community they serve.

Christopher Pruitt, MD - Medical Director
BANNER GOOD SAMARITAN MEDICAL CENTER
Christopher Pruitt, MD is an Associate Medical Director for API at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. As a graduate of Columbia University and The Medical College of Ohio, Dr. Pruitt is a dedicated physician who believes in providing the highest quality medical care for patients.

Prior to his residency in Internal Medicine, Dr. Pruitt served as President of American Wellness Consultants, a Scottsdale, AZ based firm specializing in personal and corporate health and wellness. Dr. Pruitt is a recipient of the “Special Recognition for Outstanding Service” award by the American Heart Association and continues this same level of service for API and the patients at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
